What can I expect out of this qualification?

Te Aho Tatairangi: BTchgLnrKKM is aimed at providing a professional initial teacher education course of study which ensures that graduates will have a sound theoretical grounding and practical knowledge to meet the requirements of Kura Kaupapa Maori and of the teaching profession where skills in Maori language and tikanga Maori are valued and sought. The programme is intended to ensure that graduates are highly competent, knowledgeable and skilled as effective, reflective and creative teacher practitioners.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

For admission to this programme of study, students must satisfy all the normal requirements for entry to the University and meet, the requirements set down by the Education Council of New Zealand for registration as a teacher in Aotearoa/New Zealand in terms of good character and fitness to be a teacher. They must be a fluent speaker of Te Reo Maori; have demonstrated competence in literacy and numeracy in Te Reo Maori. The level of fluency and competency is at the level of the NCEA 3 Te Reo Rangatira panui & tuhituhi external examinations; or pass a te reo Maori written and oral test based on a Massey University level 1 examination. Students are selected into the programme following a selection process which may include: Police Vetting, a written application, interview, and written and/or practical exercises.
