Who we are

Careers.govt.nz is owned and maintained by the Tertiary Education Commission.

We’re responsible for supporting New Zealanders to have the skills, knowledge and training opportunities for lifelong success.

We have several priorities relating to careers and skills for New Zealanders, including the Reform of Vocational Education.

To inform our work we have commissioned research on preparing New Zealanders for the future of work.

What we do

Our purpose

We have a responsibility from the Education and Training Act 2020 “to provide a publicly available careers information service that includes a database of information about occupations and tertiary education and training.”

So we provide tools and information to support people of all ages to make decisions about their career and education throughout life.

Careers information for everyone

Careers.govt.nz is a resource for:

  • primary, secondary and tertiary learners
  • job seekers
  • job changers
  • parents
  • career practitioners, such as teachers and career advisers.

We make sure our information is accessible and easy for everyone to understand. In recent years we have won the WriteMark Plain English Awards for Best Plain English Website.
