About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The qualification provides the opportunities to develop the competencies required by the Nursing Council of New Zealand and prepares students for their State Final examination and for a career in any health in all settings.
In addition specific aims of the qualification are to:
*Increase the number of registered nurses of Pacific Island descent.
*Enrich the nursing profession and enhance registered nurses' contribution to health outcomes by incorporating the values; identities and cultures of Pacific people in nursing.
*Prepare registered nurses to work effectively in two worlds - Pacific and all peoples.
*Develop and strengthen registered nurses' cultural identity and potential to take on future leadership roles/responsibilities both within their communities and the nursing profession.
*Prepare registered nurses with the knowledge and competence to practice in a culturally safe way with Pacific peoples and pacific communities. Provide a firm foundation for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
All enrolments in the Bachelor of Nursing Pacific programme are encouraged to attend an information session. All applicants must complete a Health Declaration and the New Zealand Nursing Council requires criminal convictions to be declared.Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:University Entrance*NCEA Level 3*Three subjects - at Level 3 or above, made up of: *14 credits each, in three approved subjects *Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: *5 credits in reading*5 credits in writingNumeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of: Achievement standards - specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects, or unit standards - package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required).And*A minimum of 12 credits at NQF Level 2 or higher from the subjects listed below:- Biology- Chemistry- Physics- ScienceOrNCEA Level 2*Applicants must hold at least 80 credits at NCEA Level 2, of which 40 credits must be at merit or excellence. Of the 80 NCEA Level 2 credits, students must have gained a minimum of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing in English or Te Reo MaoriAnd*A minimum of 12 credits from the subjects listed below:- Biology- Chemistry- Physics- ScienceAnd*A minimum of 10 credits at Level 1 or higher in mathematics.OR*Applicants who have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Career and Study Preparation (Nursing Studies) who achieve a B grade or higher in all subjects will be offered a place on the BNP programme subject to referee reports and available places. Students who did not achieve B grades or higher will be considered on an individual basis by the HOS. OR*Applicants must be able to demonstrate a mature approach to study; ability to pass a science diagnostic test; the ability to manage their time; ability to seek support; a strong motivation to work in the Health Sector; the ability to read and write at the level required for degree level study.
