About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The Bachelor of Music is an applied, industry-integrated programme targeted at school leavers,
amateur musicians wishing to increase their learning and technical skill, or professional musicians
seeking a formal qualification.
The diverse graduates of the programme will be musically and academically competent
practitioners who are able to apply the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary for successful
participation in the global music industry. In addition, these graduates will be equipped with the
ability to communicate, collaborate and innovate within their industry and across a range of
creative of cultural contexts

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

University Entrance: NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at Level 3 and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher) which must include: 14 credits at Level 3 in each of three approved* subjects [or list specified subjects here] as well as Literacy* - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading, 5 credits in writing and Numeracy* - 10 credits at Level 1 or above (specified achievement standards, or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627) OR New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) Ara Performing Arts Pathway or equivalent. ote: Students who have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), will be assessed for academic entry equivalency. * NZQA approved subjects: see http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/awards/university-entrance/ Additional Requirements: audition, 2 referee reports, written statement (please see Ara website for further details) English Requirements: IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 5.5 in any subtest), please see Ara website for further details
