Entry requirements

Admission to the programme is subject to applicants meeting the requirements as stated below, and those contained in the Admissions and Enrolment Policy. Applicants must, generally, meet the criteria for a recognised Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, or possess relevant work or professional experience at an appropriate level. Exceptions for discretionary and special admission are available, subject to approval by the Academic Board. There are no age restrictions to admissions.
A recognised Bachelor's Degree or Graduate Diploma (or higher) in a relevant discipline with a grade average of B- or higher, and at least two years of work experience in an operational setting relevant to the hotel industry; or
A professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised as being equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, with the equivalent of a grade average of B- or higher; or
At least five years experience as a director or senior leadership role in a 4 or 5 star hotel.

International students that meet the English language requirements as set out in Rule 22 of the NZQF Programme Approval, Recognition and Accreditation Rules 2025, may be eligible for enrolment subject to meeting appropriate academic criteria. In addition, applicants for whom English is not their first language require an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent, with no band score lower than 6.0.

Discretionary admission: Applicants who do not meet the qualification admission requirements defined above may apply for discretionary admission by completion of a relevant programme of learning at NZQF level 7. Applicants who do not meet the work experience admission requirements defined above may apply for permission to undertake operational training and will be required to successfully complete operational training before undertaking the industry placement component of the programme.
