Entry requirements
Prospective learners must
- be employed or have access to a port operations environment.
- be 16 years or older.
- Be physically fit to undertake learning and assessment required by each unit component
- Have support from an employer to complete the micro-credential and its associated training and assessment in the workplace.
- Previously achieved:
a. Ship Crane Operations 1 (micro-credential) OR
b. US 30072, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
This micro-credential is designed to equip learners with the key skills required for the effective operation of a ship's crane and gear and the execution of hatchperson duties during vessel exchanges. Overall, this micro-credential will contribute towards a smoother and safer port operations, reducing the risk of incidents and increasing productivity within the port and stevedoring sector. Learners who successfully complete this micro-credential will be able to undertake various operational roles supporting the operation of ship's gear and crane in a port environment. Furthermore, this micro-credential offers a pathway towards the New Zealand Certificate in Port Operations (Level 3) programme (REF:2814).
