Learners must have access to a gas infrastructure workplace to meet the work-based learning components of this micro-credential.
Pre-enrolment
- Providers must ensure applicants are informed of the nature of a technician role working unsupervised on low-capacity gas measurement systems for gas infrastructure.
- Learners/ākonga must have access to a workplace for work-based training/work placement.
- Providers must ensure learners/ākonga have access to a workplace that can provide learning support through mentors, verifiers, or supervisors who have expertise working on gas infrastructure.
Accessibility
- Providers will ensure meaningful engagement with the variety of learners/ākonga and support organisations.
- Learners/ākonga will need to meet the physical demands required to work on gas infrastructure.
- Learners/ākonga require sufficient literacy capability for reading and completing workplace documents.
Language proficiency
Providers will support learners/ākonga during delivery to ensure they have the level of language proficiency or literacy required.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide the gas infrastructure industry with a formal credential for people who have the skills to install or change a low-capacity Gas Measurement System up to 25m3/hour capacity on gas infrastructure without supervision. They can disconnect and reconnect meters in accordance with GIP 001 Gas Industry Disconnection and Reconnection Protocol.
This micro-credential addresses an identified skill gap in Aotearoa New Zealand. It will align with the Reticulated Gas - Competency Protocol GIP009, developed by the Gas Association of New Zealand.
This micro-credential may be used in programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Reticulated Gas Pipelines (Level 4) with strands in Metering and Pressure Control, and Polyethylene Pipeline Construction [Ref: 3593].
