About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This micro-credential can be awarded to teachers with a NZQA recognised teaching qualification.
The purpose for this mentoring/leadership micro-credential is to provide emerging and acting Associate Teachers with competence and capability to support the teaching practice of students undertaking undergraduate qualifications in Early Childhood and Primary Teaching community, in Aotearoa. Associate Teachers have flexibility (between 3- 6 months) to complete this 15-credit micro credential course.
The course delivery is self-directed, allowing Associate Teachers to build on and enhance their current knowledge and experience in their own time and at their own pace. The course is delivered via an online platform across three levels of experience and expertise. Underpinned by the Teaching standards (Teaching Council), the course structure is demonstrated through a progressive scale ranging from Mōhiotanga, Mātauranga, to Māramatanga. Therefore, this takes the Associate Teacher through a progression from awareness, to understanding, to being intentional and reflective in their role.
This course will be supported with a range of tools which may include PowerPoint presentations, voice-files, and video streaming. All courses are supported with readings and additional materials through the OPNZ library.
