What can I expect out of this qualification?

The Master of Software Engineering | He Tohu Paerua Pūkenga Pūmanawa programme aims to enable students from a broad range of computing, science and business backgrounds to develop and build their knowledge and skills to work in the thriving software engineering industry. It prepares students to work at any stage of the software development life cycle with a high level of competency. Building on their broad knowledge base, the programme enables future learners, including working professionals, to acquire the intellectual tools needed to become the architects of the future software industries. The programme aims to meet the growing needs in the New Zealand and global economy for software engineers through developing the qualities necessary for individuals to succeed in a rapidly developing high tech environment. Through undertaking the programme students will develop a thorough understanding of the theories, procedures, approaches and methodologies for developing advanced software solutions in cutting-edge technologies. The programme aims to provide an opportunity for students to develop core technological, entrepreneurial and work-ready skills that will support and enhance specific career pathways at both national and international levels.

Minimum requirements

Every applicant must be approved for admission by the Faculty Leader or their delegate. Applicants must fulfil the following requirements for general admission into the Master of Software Engineering | He Tohu Paerua Pükenga Pümanawa: To be considered for general admission, applicants must: * Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, physics, mathematics, business information system, business information management or related discipline An acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised university (or similar) overseas. * Applicants are expected to have familiarity with and an understanding of the following concepts and areas: - linear algebra, vector, and matrix multiplication - discrete mathematics topics such as graph theory, set theory, and probability theory. - computer programming and algorithms - use and application of statistical tools Students who have English as a second language must demonstrate a level of English language competency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (Academic) with no band less than 6.0. Applicants who enroll in the blended programme will need access to a computer with prescribed basic hardware requirements as per marketing material, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection. When required, the Faculty Leader may interview candidates to determine their eligibility for admission entry and selection into their intended programme of study. Special Admission Category Applicants who do not meet the requirements for general admission and who are New Zealand residents or permanent residents, who have extensive and relevant experience (minimum six years) and skills may apply for special admission based on relevant experience and skills together with supporting documentation.
