Entry requirements
The minimum entry qualification for ECNZ's Master of Education (ECE) by thesis is a Bachelor Honours Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma. ECNZ's Master of Education (ECE) is open to those who have met the entrance requirements, including specified levels of attainment, in the programme admission regulations. Applicants from overseas must prove they hold an acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. They must also meet the English language proficiency requirements by achieving or exceeding 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) but with no band less than 6. Admission to the Master of Education (ECE) degree is based on the evaluation of documentary evidence (including the academic record) of the individual applicant's ability to undertake postgraduate study in a specialist field of enquiry or professional practice. For further information, refer to: https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/studying-in-new-zealand/understand-nz-quals/masters-degree/ Admission is at the discretion of ECNZ. The usual entry criterion is a grade average of at least a B. For ECNZ's postgraduate alumni, completion of their qualification provides evidence of ability to undertake a master's degree. Previous work experience may be considered.
About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The aim of this qualification is to: 1. Induct emerging researchers into the role of educational research for inquiry-based teaching and learning, who can demonstrate evidence of advanced knowledge in a specialist field of inquiry
2. Prepare the next generation of researchers to undertake systematic and independent planning, execution, and completion of empirical research through culturally responsible and ethical research practice; this is achieved by partnering our students with knowledgeable supervisors and by establishing clear, effective research processes.
3. Grow a diverse community of scholars through research engagement that enables depth and breadth of research and researchers; this includes opportunities to study courses and conduct research in Early Childhood Leadership, Infants and Toddlers, Mātauranga Māori and the Montessori philosophy.
4. Develop and support the generation and dissemination of new, high quality, credible and meaningful research knowledge related to education in the Aotearoa New Zealand context and beyond. Co-publishing with supervisors is a fundamental practice for achieving this aim.
