About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides an entry point for employment in the diving industry.

Graduates will be competent in the water for own diving activities including in the use of specialist equipment within New Zealand dive environments. Graduates will also hold the skills and knowledge required to independently operate as an open water diver and rescue diver or equivalent, with relevant industry endorsement at these levels.

Minimum requirements

Before commencing this training, students must: * An interest in diving. * Have passed a current diving medical undertaken by a Doctor or Physician. This medical must remain valid for the duration of the programme. * Obtained a School Exemption if under 16 years of age at commencement of training Additional International Student requirements: * International students for whom English is a second language must attain an IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 or equivalent with no band score lower than 5, or other internationally recognised proficiency tests according to Rule 18 English language requirements for international students, or * International students must have completed all primary education (being the equivalent of New Zealand primary school years 1 to 8) and at least three years of secondary education (being the equivalent of three years from New Zealand secondary school years 9 to 13) at schools in one of the countries listed in Rule 18.5
