About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the outdoor and adventure education sector with practitioners who are capable of operating independently in a personal capacity, and who have the skills and underpinning pedagogy to safely instruct or guide a range of outdoor activities.
Graduates will be capable of operating under indirect supervision in familiar environments and under direct supervision in unfamiliar environments.
Graduates will contribute to the cultural, social, environmental and economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Graduates of this qualification will be eligible to apply for full registration on the New Zealand Register of Recreation Professionals (NZRRP).

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Applicants are required to have completed: a) New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor and Adventure Education (Multi-Skilled) (Level 4) [Ref: 3765] or b) Comparable Level 4 qualification or c) A recognized equivalent qualification; or d) Equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. DISCRETIONARY ENTRANCE Applicants who do not meet any of the entry options stated above, and think they have what it takes to complete this programme, can apply for Discretionary Entrance . The application is based on the applicant s ability to demonstrate a likelihood to succeed in the programme. The decision is at the discretion of the Head of School/Centre Director or their delegate. The ability to progress into further study depends on how successful the applicant is within the programme they apply and are accepted into under Discretionary Entrance . ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5 in the academic band, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or equivalent.
