About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the outdoor and adventure education industry with practitioners who are personally competent across a range of outdoor activities and are able to lead others in some of those activities.

Graduates will be capable of operating in low-risk, low-technical dynamic outdoor environments under direct supervision.

Graduates will contribute to the cultural, social, environmental and economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Graduates of this qualification may be eligible to apply for full registration on the New Zealand Register of Recreation Professionals (NZRRP).

Minimum requirements

* DOM L4.1 - All applicants must have NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2 and, - Declaration of any criminal conviction - Character References - Police vetting consent form * Attend an information sharing session which outlines the expectations and physical demands of the programme * For domestic/international applicants for whom English is not their first language evidence of language competency may be required Detailed Requirements * DOM L4.1 - All applicants must have NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2 and, - Declaration of any criminal conviction - Character References - Police vetting consent form * Attend an information sharing session which outlines the expectations and physical demands of the programme * DOM L4.2 - For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language evidence of language competency may be required International applicants for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of the following: - An IELTS score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language (Level 4), or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) - The Table.
