What can I expect out of this qualification?

The Master of Teaching Early Childhood Education Tohu Paerua o te Whakaako i te Matauranga Kōhungahunga aims to equip students with the dispositions, knowledge and skills to become critically reflective, intentional, adaptive, registered early childhood teachers in the bicultural contexts of Aotearoa New Zealand. By providing high quality, guided practice in authentic settings, the qualification aims to deepen students commitment to language, culture and identity as the foundation of childrens learning. Students will participate in communities of practice to foster engagement in research and the integration of theory with practice.

Minimum requirements

General 1. Two satisfactory character references are required which address the NZTC Good Character and Fit to be a Teacher Policy 2007. These should be from persons in positions of trust or responsibility such as an employer, pastor, kaumatua or kuia. References from family, friends or work colleagues will not be accepted. 2. Two forms of identity : New Zealand Passport, New Zealand Certificate of Identity, New Zealand Refugee Travel document, Emergency Travel document, New Zealand Firearms License, Overseas Passport, New Zealand Full Birth Certificate issued on or after 1998, New Zealand Citizenship Certificate, New Zealand Driver s License, current 18+ card, Community Services Card, Super Gold Card, Veteran Super Gold Card, Inland Revenue Number, Electrol Roll Records or New Zealand issued bill not more than 6 months old. Note: Both forms of identity must be valid and one document must be a form of photo ID. 3. Satisfactory participation in an entry interview. Academic 1. Bachelor s degree at level 7 consisting of at least 360 credits*; or 2. Bachelor Honours degree at level 8 consisting of at least 480 credits*; or 3. Master s degree at level 9 consisting of at least 240 credits*; or 4. holders of a Teacher Registration Board or The Council approved diploma in teaching (Primary) *These qualifications can be in any discipline. The qualification type applies to all qualifications as listed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF). Where a candidate holds multiple qualifications, all of these will be considered when making a decision. In addition, students must have attained a B average grade or above during the course of their study or in their final year of study.
