About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is for people who want to develop a broad understanding of tikanga in a specialist field founded on a Māori worldview.
Graduates of this qualification will have a broad range of knowledge and skills to support and participate in the practice of tikanga under limited supervision.
Graduates of this qualification will be able perform and apply knowledge fundamental to tikanga practices across the community in general.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
NCEA level 1 or equivalent AND provide evidence of a level of literacy sufficient to (i) be able to study at this level, and (ii) interpret and apply health and safety requirements be able to demonstrate an interest in the field and the potential to succeed. An applicant over the age of 20 may be admitted at the discretion of the Head of School, where the applicant demonstrates the capability to undertake and complete the programme of study. All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of either te reo Maori or English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. For international students, ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include the following: successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction (subject to the conditions in EIT's Database for English Language Proficiency (DELP)) completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3 with any endorsement) IELTS Academic score of 5, with no band score lower than 5, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment accepted international equivalents to the above IELTS scores (see equivalency tables in the DELP). Applicants must be 16 years or over. Students must be physically fit and able to complete the practical aspects of the programme. For health and safety purposes, applicants must submit a completed Personal Information Form to confirm that they will be physically capable of meeting the course requirements.
