What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with proficient early childhood educators who can provide and/or support the practice-based education and care of mokopuna - infants, toddlers, and young children in a range of early childhood contexts.
This qualification is intended for people who intend to work as early childhood educators or proceed to further study. This qualification does not lead to teacher registration.
Graduates may work independently or as part of a team in a range of early childhood contexts including those underpinned by specific philosophies, and to proceed to further study. It is also intended to enhance community outcomes.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Students will be selected by the following criteria: - a satisfactory Police Vet Report - a satisfactory entry test - a New Zealand Citizen or Resident - achieved NCEA Level 2, or demonstrated knowledge and experience to this level - meet all criteria for fit to be a practitioner 'Fit to be a Practitioner' Criteria - Students must be able to physically perform duties that contribute to the care of infants, toddlers and young children. - Students must be willing to learn new skills & absorb new information. - Students must have an acceptable police vet check. Absolute no criminal history containing abuse to children will be accepted. - Students must be able to effectively communicate, verbally & non verbally. - Students must be able to demonstrate a genuine level of respect to others. - Students must be able to maintain a professional manner at all times. - Students must be able to complete the practical work experience component of the course. During the Interview process, the student demonstrated: - an attitude of dedication towards the course - confidence in their ability to achieve - a willingness to learn - a respectful attitude toward others The selection committee are satisfied that the student has the resources required to complete the course, including: - can communicate well verbally and non verbally - confidently complete the entry test
