What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have introductory skills and knowledge to participate in the care and education of mokopuna - infants, toddlers, and young children, in an entry-level role in an early childhood context.

This qualification is intended for people who intend to work as entry-level carers or early childhood educators or proceed to further study. Graduates will contribute to improving society and community wellbeing outcomes and strengthening whanau/families.

Graduates will be able to operate under limited supervision. The ECE setting will determine the specific requirements and the level of supervision under which graduates will operate when employed, which will generally be direct supervision.

Minimum requirements

Students must - Be a domestic student (one of the following): A New Zealand citizen, or a New Zealand permanent resident currently living in New Zealand. A Cook Island, Niue or Tokelau citizen. An Australian citizen who is currently living in New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident who has a returning resident visa and is currently living in New Zealand. A refugee with refugee status who is directed to study as part of residency requirements. Provide a birth certificate or passport as evidence of identity or confirm identity through RealMe. Be over 16 years of age or have an early leaving exemption. Be profiled for reading using the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool. Receive a satisfactory police check in accordance with the Vulnerable Childrens Act 2014 - all applications will be provisionally enrolled until this is received
