What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for those who are or want to be a language educator.
It is intended as a base-level qualification for a language educator who is an operationally proficient user of the language taught.

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to design, facilitate and assess language teaching, as well as reflect on own practice.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

English Language Proficiency requirements for International students: International students enrolling in this course must provide evidence that they have achieved IELTS Academic score 5.5, with no band score lower than 5, or its equivalent, as per Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2013. Target language proficiency requirements for all students: Candidates need to demonstrate competence in the target language at Common European Framework of Reference C1 or above. (IELTS equivalent: 6.5). Target language refers to the language which the candidate will teach in practicum. As this programme is an English medium taught generic language teaching course, target language may vary among candidates. Where an international student wishes to enrol with English as a target language, that candidate must demonstrate English proficiency at or above CEFR C1. (In accordance with Rule 18.2.) Other Entry Requirements: Domestic candidates require at least 10 credits in NCEA level 2 English. All candidates must be 18 years or over. Candidates must pass a safety check to complete the practicum component of the course in accordance with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
