About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the equine industry with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to assist in the stabling, care, and/or exercise of horses in the performance horse sectors of the equine industry.

The qualification is stranded to reflect the specialist skills required to work either in the harness industry, thoroughbred racing industry or the sporthorse industry.

Graduates will be able to contribute effectively in the workplace at entry-level with limited supervision.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Open to New Zealand Citizens and Residents. Prospective students should be 16 years old or older; and have some experience in handling horses in the equine industry; and who wish to further develop their skills in the Sporthorse sector. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the physical ability and skills to manage the practical aspects of the programme without putting themselves and others at risk, before being accepted into the programme.
