About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the primary industry with individuals who have the knowledge and skills to manage a wide range of primary industry business operations. Primary industry business operations may include farming, horticulture, fishing, apiculture and other similar activities.

This qualification is targeted at people who are in a management or supervisory role in a primary industry business, or who have some industry or other relevant experience and are ready to advance into a management role within a primary industry business.

Graduates will be capable of working in an autonomous management capacity and are likely to have control over the management of a primary industry business or a unit within a primary industry business.

Minimum requirements

All applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in primary industry business management and have academic attributes which demonstrate that applicants have a reasonable likelihood of successful completion of the programme. Examples include:- completion of a programme of study at Level 4 or above in a related discipline and/or employment in a related field for 2 or more years Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic Entry Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact NMIT for advice. If English is not the applicant s first language they will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact NMIT for an assessment. IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest) Note: Applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills.
