About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the pastoral farming sector with graduates who have a broad theoretical understanding of New Zealand pastoral farming systems and practical capability in the pastoral farming sector.

The pastoral farming industry will benefit from being able to identify and recruit graduates who have an understanding of the key inputs into farming systems, and the wider context of the pastoral farming industry in terms of environmentally and financially sustainable farming practices.

This qualification is designed to be flexible enough to reflect regional and industry variations in demand for skills.

Graduates will be capable of working under limited supervision in the pastoral farming sector.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Academic Achievement Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study: 5.1.1 National Certificate in Agriculture Level 2 and / or equivalent qualification or experience in the industry. Any qualification specified by the ITO or equivalent standards setting body A minimum of three years of secondary education; and/or 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 1, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects; and/or Step 3 Reading and Step 4 Numeracy on the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions is not English, require an ELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 5.5 or above (or equivalent) for enrolment. Life Skills/Work Experience Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme/course of study if they are able to demonstrate: Equivalent farming knowledge and skills; and/or Previous and relevant life skills or work experience; and/or Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful course completion.
