About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the tourism and travel industries with individuals who can contribute to the effective implementation of processes in the tourism industry and proactively support and enhance the visitor experience, and through their skills and knowledge strengthen the contribution of tourism to the New Zealand economy.
The qualification will benefit the community by enhancing New Zealand's tourism visitor experiences and bringing economic benefits to the country.
Graduates will be able to deliver, and assist in supporting the delivery of, a high-quality visitor experience across a range of organisations in the tourism and travel industries, taking full responsibility for the nature, quantity and quality of outcomes.

Minimum requirements

Domestic students To be considered for a Level 5 programme at the New Zealand School of Tourism, students must meet the following minimum requirements: - Must be at least 17 years of age, or turning 17 during the course of study. - Have satisfactorily completed a New Zealand or National Certificate qualification in Tourism & Travel related areas at Level 4. Other equivalent qualifications will be considered. - Have successfully passed the interview and entry test requirements International students To be considered for a Level 5 programme at the New Zealand School of Tourism, students must meet the following minimum requirements: 18 years of age on day 1 of your course. Completed Secondary School offshore or New Zealand Year 12 or equivalent work experience. English Language Proficiency as outlined below: English Language Proficiency. All New Zealand School of Tourism courses are conducted in English. The following levels are considered as an acceptable level for our courses: IELTS 5.5, No individual band to be under 5.0. TOEFL 550 (PBT). Equivalent qualifications (FCE, CAE, NZCEL, PToE, IESOL, NCEA Level 3) Passed an internal ACG test with 5.5 IELTS overall. From 24 October 2015 this is only applicable for students from markets with over 80 percent visa approval. A 5.5 IELTs equivalent letter from an approved partner English school that has an approved NZQA English language proficiency assessment. From 24 October 2015 this is only applicable for students from markets with over 80 percent visa approval. Transferring/graduated from another tertiary training organisation in New Zealand. You may be required to sit our internal ACG English test
