About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To supply the food and beverage sector with employees who are able to provide service in cafes and unlicensed restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bars or clubs, restaurants offering table or buffet service, establishments catering functions in-house, or baristas.
- To provide a credential for those individuals who are employed as service personnel that will support their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for basic service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate to provide food and/or beverage service in a casual dining or bar context.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Domestic applicants must be: - Sufficiently competent in numeracy and literacy to be able to complete the programme (Step 2 online assessment tool) -Physically able to complete the work -Minimum of 16 years of age - An interview is required upon application for the programme. - New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident (funding requirement) International students must be: -18 years or older -have an IELTS General or Academic score of at least 5, with no band score lower than 5 OR alternative NZQA approved proficiency outcomes for entry at level 3 OR an equivalent score on the CAG English Language Entry Assessment in compliance with Rule 18 requirements.
