About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To supply the food and beverage sector with employees who are able to provide service in cafes and unlicensed restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bars or clubs, restaurants offering table or buffet service, establishments catering functions in-house, or baristas.
- To provide a credential for those individuals who are employed as service personnel that will support their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for basic service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate to provide food and/or beverage service in a casual dining or bar context.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Applicants shld demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following quals or courses of study: 48 or more credits at NCEA Lv1, with 8 literacy credits including 4 credits in reading and 4 credits in writing and at least 8 credits in numeracy; and/or Equivalent NZQF standards. English Language: applicants whose first language is not English, are required to provide evidence of having passed such test of English language as stipulated in Policy & Procedure English Language Proficiency. Life Skills/Work Experience: Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the prog if they are able to demonstrate; equiv knowledge & skills; and/or previous & relevant life skills or work exp; and/or other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful prog completion
