About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the solid wood manufacturing industry with people who have the skills and knowledge required to work as advanced operators without supervision in a solid wood manufacturing operation. Each strand represents a process undertaken in solid wood manufacturing.

Graduates will be able to operate and maintain plant and equipment safely and efficiently and will be able to troubleshoot and make decisions to maintain productivity.

Graduates of the Laminating strand will also be able to manage production planning, procedures and performance in a laminating operation.

Graduates of the Timber Drying strand will also be able to manage production planning, procedures and performance in a timber drying operation.

Graduates of the Timber Grading strand will also be able to manage production planning, procedures and performance in a timber grading operation.

Graduates of the Timber Treatment strand will also be able to manage production planning, procedures and performance in a timber treatment plant.

Minimum requirements

Entry to the programme, including English Language requirements and academic requirements will be in accordance the criteria specified in the Regulatory Framework, and QMS policies and processes. In addition applicants must be: Be 16 years old at the time the programme commences; Be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a level that does not compromise safety Be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes.
