About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the public health sector with a workforce with common generic public health and health promotion competencies.
Graduates will work with groups and communities to promote and protect public health, and improve health outcomes in a public health context. They will demonstrate the baseline knowledge, skills and attributes required of public health and/or health promotion practitioners, to implement public health initiatives.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

The Certificate in Health Promotion (Level 5) is open to those who have met the specified entry requirements below. - Students must have an acceptable New Zealand Police vet before entry to the programme. (Note 1) - Entry for adult learners to this programme is open, subject to the learner meeting minimum literacy and numeracy requirements, sufficient to enable them to successfully complete the programme. (Note 2). - Learners who have left secondary school within two years of enrolling in this programme are required to have achieved a minimum of 40 credits at NCEA level 3, or equivalent. - Students for whom English is not their first language, must meet a minimum English language achievement level of IELTS 6.0 in all bands, or equivalent, is required for entry into this programme. Notes: 1. If the programme begins before the report has been received from the New Zealand Police, students may begin the programme but must be informed that they may not attend any practical experience at a health care provider until an acceptable New Zealand Police vet has been received by NZMA. 2. Education providers should make study skills support accessible for learners, if required.
