The MAppTheol programme aspires to build capacity for reflective Christian praxis in Aotearoa New Zealand and related contexts.

Minimum requirements

The MAppTheol degree requires students to undertake 240 credits where the candidate has completed one of: A recognised Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry with a grade point average of B in courses at Level 6 and 7, or equivalent. A professional or other qualification which, in the judgement of the Carey Academic Director, can be recognised as equivalent to an Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry. The MAppTheol degree may be completed with 180 credits where the candidate has BOTH: Completed a recognised three-year Bachelor s degree in Theology or Ministry (or equivalent), with a grade point average of 7.0 (B) in courses of the qualifying undergraduate programme at NZQA levels 6 and 7. AND Acquired professional/ministry experience and training that warrants advanced standing (at the discretion of the Academic Committee and Head of Carey Graduate School). The MAppTheol degree may be completed with 120 credits at the discretion of the Academic Committee and on the recommendation of the Academic Director. A candidate may be admitted having completed one of the following: A recognised 3-year Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry with a grade point average of B in courses at Level 6 and 7, or equivalent followed by 1 year of advanced study in a relevant discipline. A recognised 3-year Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry with a grade point average of B in courses at Level 6 and 7, or equivalent. A recognised Postgraduate Diploma in a related discipline wherein the applicant is deemed by the Academic Director as having completed an equivalent to the MA801 Research Methods in Applied Theology course. The Postgraduate Diploma of Applied Theology awarded by Carey (with the application for candidature within 6 years of the completion of the Postgraduate Diploma).
