Adult and community education courses

Adult and Community Education in Communities (ACE) classes can teach you basic skills, improve your existing skills and increase your job opportunities - where you live.

ACE classes can be short courses run in the evenings or weekends at your local community centre, school, polytechnic, institute of technology, wānanga or private training organisation.

Some classes are run full time during the week.

The class sizes are small to help you learn basic skills in a subject easily and build confidence in learning.

You can learn a variety of skills that are useful for work in ACE classes. For example, a range of computer skills from basic typing to advanced software, graphic design and web design.

Courses include practical skills for going into apprenticeship training such as cooking, woodworking, and car and home maintenance.

You can also develop your work-ready skills with classes in job hunting, driver’s licence education, adult numeracy and literacy, assertiveness training, te reo Māori, English as a Second Language (ESOL), and sign language.

If you want to progress in your career, some organisations offer courses in management, networking and career planning skills.
