Find out what the Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) offered for study, training and apprenticeships.

What was the Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF)?

The Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) was a government fund that paid fees and compulsory costs for many vocational education and training (VET) programmes. It was also known as "free trades training".

It covered:

  • training and assessment fees for apprentices in industry training (on the job)
  • programme fees and any other compulsory costs for learners in provider-based training (study)

TTAF paid your fees from 1 July 2020 until 31 December 2022.

What if I was already in training when TTAF began?

If you were already in training and your programme was on the TTAF list, you would have been signed up automatically.

Depending on when you started training, TTAF might have only covered part of your programme fees.

If you were charged for a programme that was covered by TTAF, you should have had your fees refunded, student loan credited or Fees Free entitlement given back to you.

We suggest asking your education provider about a refund for the fees you have paid for your eligible programme/s if you have not received one.
